Philetus Mills BARNUM was one of three children born to Curtis BARNUM (1804-1836) and Ovy
YOUNG. He was married to Phebe BLACKMER.
During the Civil War he was a Corporal in Company I, 14th Regiment, Connecticut Infantry.
He was captured by the Confederates at Morton's Ford, Virginia, on February 6, 1864 and
died of dysentery on October 11 of that year while confined at the infamous Confederate
prison camp at Andersonville, Georgia.
