Muryle and Wanda were married in a double ceremony with his twin, Buryle Harwell and Ollie Pruit on August 01, 1947 in Odessa, Texas. They had two beautiful daughters, Gloria Dawn and Glenda Vawn.
On December 18, 1952, the Harwell family were returning home to the Crane Water Station from visiting Wanda's parents and Christmas shopping when they were involved in a fatal accident. The loss of these four beautiful souls devastated both sides of the family....especially Muryle's twin brother, Buryle.
MAN, FAMILY OF FOUR DIE IN HEAD-ON CRASH
In a tragic pre-Christmas accident late Thursday, an entire family of four was killed and another man killed in a head-on collision 13 miles west of Odessa on U.S. Hwy 80.
Muryle Ernest Harwell, 27, Mrs. Harwell, 22, and their two daughters, Gloria Dawn, 4, and Glenda Vown, 3, all of the Phillips Camp near Crane are dead. All but Harwell were killed outright in the crash and he died at Medical Center Hospital at 3:15 p.m. an hour after the crash.
The Harwells will be taken to Cisco for internment.
According to the state highway patrol, the crash occurred on the winding road just west of the Penwell underpass, when apparently Harwell lost control of his car on the rain-slick highway, and skidded into the path of Graves car, which was pulling a trailer.
The Harwells had been in Odessa visiting Mrs. Harwell's mother, Mrs. Murray, and were on their way home, planning to go to Crane by the road running south from Penwell. Harwell had a twin brother, who also works for Phillips and lives at the Goldsmith camp.
The Penwell crash was reconstructed by State Highway Patrolman John D. White after inspecting the scene. White said that apparently Harwell's car began skidding as he turned, after coming out of the underpass.
Graves' car and trailer rounded the bend in the rain, as he proceeded towards the underpass, crashing head-on into the Harwell vehicle, which apparently was on his side of the road.
