Kyle was the 7th of 8 children born to Ransey & Elizabeth Smith Long, in a log cabin on Long Hollow Rd in Hawkins County, TN. They lived in the log cabin until WW II. During WW II, he served as a U. S. Army medic and infantryman in the 98th Infantry Division, Iroquois 390th Infantry Regiment, Medical Detachment, in Hawaii and Japan.
He married Loverl B. McLain Oct. 10, 1946.
Kyle retired from Eastman Kodak in 1984 after 43 years of service. He worked as a farmer in Church Hill all his life. He was a faithful Christian, a member of North Fork Baptist Church, Rogersville and the American Legion Post # 21, Rogersville.
Kyle L. Long, 86, died Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Indian Path Hospital. He was devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His cheerful, Compassionate personality will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Brenda Long; infant grandsons, Brian and Travis Long; parents, Ransey and Elizabeth Smith Long; two sisters, Lora and infant Elsie Long; five brothers, Sterlie, Dorsey, Hobert, Reeser, and James William Long.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Loverl McLain Long; son and daughter-in-law, Shelby and Anna Long; granddaughter and light of his life, Jennifer Alyson Long; sisters-in-law, Ruby Manis, Myrlie Cradic, Wanda Smith, Geneva McLain, Zetta McLain, Eunivea McLain, Vivian Long, Stella Long; brother-in-law, Willard McLain; several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express grateful appreciation to the staff at Church Hill Health Care.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Sunday School Bible Class at North Fork Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Wayne Cradic, Larry Ray Moore, J. C. Herron, Terry Herron, Brian Skelton, Enos McLain, Tim Cradic
Memorial contributions may be made to: North Fork Cemetery Fund, C/O Myrlie Cradic, 407 W. Main Blvd., Church Hill, TN 37642.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2008, at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at North Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Alan Payne, Rev. Paul Clevinger and Rev. Riley Jones officiating. Military graveside services will follow in the church cemetery by Hawkins County Color Guard and Tennessee Army National Guard.
