Obituary, 13 Oct 2011:
Richard L. Petrie passed away on Monday, October 10, 2011 after a brief illness.
Dick was born March 5, 1931, in Boston Massachusetts to Richard and Amy Petrie. He was a graduate of English High-the oldest public school in the Country. He became a Merchant Marine at the young age of 16, working on a passenger ship from Boston to Nova Scotia. In 1948, at just 17 years old, Dick joined the United States Army and proudly served for 4 years before being honorably discharged in 1952. He attended Boston University from 1952-1956 graduating with a degree in Geology.
Dick is survived by his 3 children Nancy, Cheryl and Brian and his 2 grandchildren Ronny and Drezdan as well as his 3 siblings Robert, Allen and Anitia. Dick also leaves behind his long time companion Winnie who filled his life with friendship and happiness. Dick loved life and he loved New Hampshire and since 1993, he has called this place home. He was the leader of ORFS for many years.
Richard Petrie was a dad, a grandfather and an uncle, a man of knowledge and great will. He was a great friend to many and loved to volunteer working and helping others for which he will always be remembered. He will truly be missed but never forgotten
We wish him eternal peace and will always love him.
