Margaret Landrum Cason, age 95, of Inverness, Florida, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2009, under the care of Hospice as well as her loving family and caregivers. Her request to remain at home was honored.
She was born July 2, 1913, to Annie and Turner Landrum of Brooksville. Her brothers and sisters were Henry Landrum, Eleanor Sammons, Jesse McBath and J.T. Landrum. All birth family members pre-deceased her.
Margaret Landrum married John Henry Cason, the love of her life. They had two sons, Carroll Edward Cason and Henry Ernest Cason. They continued their family's tradition of farming and raising beef cattle. They also developed land for subdivisions. Margaret Cason outlived her husband and two sons. Now, she has joined them in Heaven.
Margaret Cason was born to be a teacher. She started out by teaching students barely older than herself. Some of the schools where she taught included Hebron, Lake Lindsey and Brooksville Primary. She was proud of the fact that she obtained a 4.0 grade average for her Bachelor and Master degrees at the University of Florida.
Even after she retired early to care for her sick relatives, she continued to inspire and encourage others. She credited her strength of character to God, "good pioneer stock", laughter and her passion for life.
Her hobbies were gardening, watching the birds and her cows, being read to by her caregivers, and never missing the Dr. Phil show.
She was a lifelong member of Eden Baptist Church. She said she always looked forward to the sermon and the songs as well as the hugs.
Survivors include Lois M. Cason, her daughter-in-law, three granddaughters, Diana Cason Fontane, Linda Cason Johnson and (Paul); Tammy Anne Cason, all of Citrus County; two-great-granddaughters, Vicki Zopf and (Marc), and Sandra Myers; two-great-great grandchildren; Kaitlyn and Riley Zopf and extended family.
There will be a visitation at the Turner Funeral Homes Brooksville Chapel on Friday, March 20, 2009, 504 E. Jefferson Street, Brooksville, FL, between 5:00-7:00 PM. The Graveside Service at Lake Lindsey Cemetery will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at 11:00 AM.
