He was a left handed pitcher making his debut for the Boston Red Sox on April 12, 1913. For eleven seasons, he played with the Boston Red Sox (1913-18), Detroit Tigers (1919-25) and was a member of the Boston Red Sox World Series Championships (1914-15). In 1914, he was the American League Earned Run Average Champion and pitched two no-hitters (1916, 1918). He finished his career with a record of 139 wins, 113 loss, 1160 strikeouts, 152 complete games, 33 shutouts, 13 saves and a 2.76 earned run average. After baseball he became a very successful California fruit farmer and wine maker. He died at age 60 from complications of a stroke. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
