VAIDEN - Services for Claude G. Cox, 100, of Vaiden, who died of heart failure Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Tyler Holmes Hospital in Winona, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Shongalo Presbyterian Church in Vaiden.
Mr. Cox was a farmer and an elder at Shongalo Presbyterian Church. He also drove a school wagon and a school bus.
His daughter-in-law, Alice Cox of Vaiden, remembered that she was one of the students Mr. Cox transported in a camper-style bus, starting in 1944. He drove that type of bus and a regular yellow school bus until 1970, when he retired.
However, Mr. Cox was 16 when started driving a school wagon from Elliott to Blackmonton about three years, starting in 1916.
The school wagon was drawn by two mules, Molly and Jack, Mrs. Cox said.
Mr. Cox turned 100 on Nov. 6, 2000. The family celebrated with a party at the church. More than 200 people came to wish him well, Mrs. Cox said.
Mr. Cox is survived by one son, Roscoe Wilson Cox of Vaiden.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Lee Funeral Home in Winona.
The Revs. Tony Yelverton and Larry Cox will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Vaiden Cemetery.
