John Chester Boyd 83, a resident of Deming, N.M., entered eternal rest Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at the Advanced Care Hospital of Southern New Mexico in Las Cruces, N.M. John was born June 19, 1925 to Chester and Alice Boyd in Menoken, N.D. After his service in the United States Navy during WW II, he worked as an electrician in the Bismarck and Mandan North Dakota area. He also worked as a movie theater projectionist in Bismarck which started his avid interest in photography. Upon retirement, John and his wife Agnes moved to Deming, N.M. in 1986, where he became an active volunteer for the Deming Senior Citizens Center, helping to teach classes in silversmithing, lapidary, and photography, along with the garden club. John was very proud of his organic fruit orchard southwest of Deming, where he and Agnes worked tirelessly to create their oasis in the desert with numerous varieties of apples, pears, peaches and plums alongside their rose gardens, trees, and flowers.
John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Agnes, three sons, Douglas Boyd, of Omaha, NE; William Boyd and his wife Becky of Bismarck, ND; and Steven Boyd and his wife Mary of Moorhead, MN; three daughters, Marjorie Kimball and her husband Bruce of Columbus, NM; Cathryn Lynch and her husband Tom of Minot, ND; and Janice Boyd of Bismarck, ND; six granddaughters, Jodie (Eli) Howry of Otsego MN; Victoria and Anne Boyd of Moorhead, MN; Christina and Stephanie Lynch of Minot, ND; and Haleigh Springan of Bismarck, ND; and one great-grandson, Mason Howry of Otsego, MN; two sisters, Carol (John) Bower of Bismarck, ND; and Sibyl (Gordon) Olson of Osage, MN; and one brother, Kenneth (Sandy) Boyd of Santa Maria, CA. John was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kevin David Boyd; three sisters, Alice Louise Hutchison, Betty Jo Whincup, and Roberta Boyd; and his infant brother Daniel Patrick Boyd. A memorial service will take place at a later date, at the Glencoe Presbyterian Church, with inurnment to follow at the Sloane Memorial Cemetery in rural Bismarck, North Dakota. Cremation has taken place at Terrazas Crematory. Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapel and Terrazas Crematory. "Trusted care for the ones you love"
