HICKSVILLE -- Richard D. Folk, 81, Hicksville, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at Hickory Creek of Hicksville.
He was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Hicksville, the son of Riley and Goldie (Houser) Folk. In 1946, married Rita Burns, who survives. He graduated from Hicksville High School, retired from Dana Weatherhead, Antwerp, and worked for Jim Schmidt Chevrolet, Hicksville, for 20 years. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving as a corporal during World War II and awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded at Iwo Jima. He was a member of Antwerp VFW Post 5087, Herman Hesselschwardt Detachment 758 of the Marine Corps League in Defiance and Hicksville Eagles Aerie 5665, where he was a Golden Eagle.
Also surviving are two daughters, Julie (Ken) Tishhouse of Sherwood and Vicki (Don) Thompson, Point Blank, Texas; a brother, Raymond (Carol), Bryan; a sister, Vivian Wahl, Hicksville; and four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Paul; and a sister, Ora Ethel Burns.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, with Father Thomas Oedy officiating. Burial will be at Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville. Visitation is from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday with a Marine Corps service at 7 p.m., and one hour prior to services Wednesday.
Preferred memorials are to Hospice the Caring Way of Defiance or St. Michael's renovation fund.
