Billy Joe Glover June 10, 1933 — July 30, 2009 COMANCHE — Billy Joe Glover, 76, of Comanche, died Thursday, July 30, 2009, at Duncan Regional Hospital in Duncan.A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. There will no visitation at the funeral home.He was born on June 10, 1933, in Temple, Okla., the son of Joseph L. and Virgie L. Keeble Glover. Billy Joe was one of seven brothers and three sisters and spent his childhood in Oklahoma and Texas share-cropping.He married Betty Jean Eaves of Duncan on Jan. 23, 1952, in Wichita Falls, Texas. They began their journey in Washington state in 1952, where he worked as a mechanic and, in 1956, they moved to Eugene, Ore. He began working for Lou Williams Chevrolet, then Joe Romania Chevrolet, where he won the "Mechanic of the Year" and the "GM Master Mechanic" awards. In 1974, he had the opportunity to work on the docks of southern California, repairing equipment used in loading and unloading container ships.Billy Joe loved music and could play any string instrument and, during the late 1950s to late 1960s, played in his own band, consisting of his brothers and nephews, calling themselves Billy Joe and Broncos. In 1990, Billy Joe and Betty Jean moved back to Oklahoma, residing in Comanche. He loved working his cattle, haying his field and riding his horses. He operated BJ Glover Repair Shop in Comanche and was known as the best mechanic in Oklahoma by many.He was a devoted husband, loving father to his five children and the best Grandpa ever to his nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.Billy Joe was greatly loved and honored by his family and respected by his friends.
