COL US Army (Retired)
Medical Corps - Preventive Medicine
1 Jul 1948 - 1 Sep 1970
Legion of Merit; Army Commendation Medal (w/oak leaf cluster); National Defense Service Medal (w/oak leaf cluster)

He studied chemistry at Seattle College from 1941-1944, was deferred from service to continue medical school at the St. Louis University; obtaining his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1948. Grateful of the deferment, (although he did serve as the captain of a resupply tugboat for U.S. forces in the Aleutian Islands), he was commissioned upon graduation. He interned at the Letterman General Hospital and was assigned to Madigan Army Hospital for his residency in general practice.

Moving frequently with his growing family, his assignments varied from Embassy duty in India, to a Preventive Medicine Doctor at Fort Lewis, to an exchange officer at the Royal Army Medical School in England, to the 9th Hospital at Landstuhl, Germany. While there, he was involved in the Somalia Flood Relief Program. Returning to the states, he joined the school staff at Brooke Army Medical Center and the Surgeon Generals Staff at Fort Meade. Offered a job in country (Vietnam), he elected to retire instead; ending his military career in 1970.

He was the Medical Director for the United Mine Workers in Knoxville prior to moving to Crofton to become Medical Director for the Montgomery County Health Department, a position he held until his retirement from medicine.

Daddy loved to tinker with anything electronic. He was a camera buff and computer expert before computers became a household item. He survived two wives and two children; and became the guardian angel for six daughters, a son, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
