Gavin D. Jaynes, 96, of Powderly died Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Paris Healthcare Center.
A graveside service has been set for 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 12, at Detroit Cemetery with Patrick Cannon officiating. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
The family receives friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 7, 1910, in Detroit, to Frank and Robbie Spangler Jaynes. He worked hard his entire life at many tasks including house moving and as a blacksmith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Opal Lester Dec. 15, 1979, in Idabel, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Forest Jaynes and Marvin Jaynes; and one sister, Veda Thomas.
He is survived by four children, Gavin Jaynes, Terry Lester and wife, Melissa, Marvin Lester and wife, Pattie, and Ronnie Lester and wife, Donna; and 13 grandchildren, Tasha Hill, Ronnie Lester, Jr., Rodney Lester, Chachi Waggoner, Jackie Lester, Kenny Lester, Lane Jaynes, Haylee Weaver, Eric Basham, Aspen Linville, Christopher Hill, Brionna Hill, and Hayden Waggoner.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Lester, Terry Lester, Rodney Lester, Ronnie Lester, Jr., Johnny Ballard, and Ronald Ballard.
Marvin Lester will serve as honorary pallbearer.
