William was a WW2 fatality, age 28; Enlisted 1941 as a Private in the Army Air Corp at Fort McPherson in Atlanta GA. Promotions to Staff Sergeant, 846th Bomber Squadron, 489th Heavy Bomb Group. Died in combat during Operation Cobra at St. Lo in Normandy. Awarded the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart, and additional Army medals. Source: WW2 Honor Roll.
