Warrant Officer Class 2
Army Air Corps
He was deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.
WO2 Faulkner was one of five British service personnel killed in the crash of a Lynx MK9A helicopter in the Takhta Pul district of Kandahar, southern Afghanistan. The incident is under investigation and early reports indicate it was an accident due to catastrophic mechanical failure.
Aged 38, he joined the army as a Royal Engineer geographic technician in September 1992. Selected for employment as aircrew in 2005, he completed his initial flying training before conversion to the Lynx. An experienced aviator, WO2 Faulkner deployed to Afghanistan on numerous occasions, often at short notice, in support of UK armed forces. He was remembered as an extremely experienced aviator, the air mission commander of his detachment and a stalwart of the squadron.
WO2 Faulkner leaves behind his wife Cally, children Natasha and Jack, other family and friends. His family said, "Spen was a loving husband and devoted father, and will be greatly missed. A huge gap has been left in our hearts forever. He has been tragically taken away whilst serving his country, a job he loved. God rest his soul."
Funeral with full military honours was held on May 23, 2014 at St John's Church, Newbury.
