Services for Chilton Murray McGill, 74, are pending with Lloyd James Funeral Home of Tyler.
Mr. McGill died Sunday in a Tyler hospital after a short illness.
He was born February 22, 1917, in Whitehouse and lived in Smith County most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army, 90th Division, during World War II and received two Purple Hearts. He was a retired insurance agent and also self-employed in constuction work. He was a member of Bascom United Methodist Church, St. John's Masonic Lodge and of "Christian Heirs" since 1972. He was pianist and director.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Stewart McGill; one son and daughter-in-law, Murray Dan and Treva McGill, Tyler, two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Dan Wells, Tyler and Nancy and Rob Allen, Woodlands; four grandsons, Scott Cowell, Michael Allen, Stephen McGill and Toby Wells and three granddaughters, Jennifer Allen, Alisha Hall and Crystal Wells.
