My Great Uncle Richard F. Allen "Dick", was one of 4 brothers who served in WWII, coming from Durango, Colorado. He was extremely popular in his home town, had many friends and was particularly close with his parents and 14 siblings. He was a very happy person and a hard worker. His loss was a tremendous burden for my great grandparents. He was the humorous one but at the same time, incredibly responsible sibling of the bunch. He did not marry before he left for the war, and has no direct descendants. He received a Purple Heart posthumously for his wounds incurred at the Battle of Leyte, and his sister Mary still has this precious certificate.
