Tina was my beloved dog. She was a shepherd/lab mix. We got her in February of 1998 after the death of another one of our dogs.
I remember it like it was yesterday. We walked into the pet shop looking for a dog and there she was. She was a small black dog with brown legs in a little cage behind glass. We were interested in the dog and asked them if it was a male or female. The worker took a look and said, "This one's a little girl." We took her home and put her in the garage and she whined all night. After thinking of a name, we decided to call her Tina.
Tina enjoyed her life. She was a wonderful dog. As a puppy, my mom would bring Tina along with her when she picked me up after school. She loved to swim in her pond where she tried to catch frogs, and she loved to chase us as we rode our 3-wheelers. She enjoyed riding in the truck and would ride with my dad and me wherever we went. She loved, trusted, and cared about us all. She loved her woods and loved walking down the trails. Whenever we would go outside, she would always be right there, like a shadow. I remember many summer days when Tina and I would take a 3-mile walk, just the two of us, almost every day. But as Tina grew older, she began to slow down. She stopped chasing 3-wheelers and running around the yard. Near the end, she had a bad seizure and was unable to walk up stairs. Concerned, we took her to the vet and were told that Tina had Cushing's disease. Devastated, I cried with Tina as she looked at me wondering what was wrong. I knew it wouldn't be long before we would lose Tina. I was told that Tina would get sick at the end of her life and that's what started to happen. Tina soon began to have diarrhea on a daily basis and eventually she could hardly walk. She developed a foul odor and my mother decided that she could no longer let Tina suffer. On June 18, 2010, Tina was put to sleep and left us for a better place.
It's just so hard to believe that Tina's short life of 12 years is now over. I keep thinking about her life, from the day we brought her home, until today, the day we had to bury her. It seems like such a short life. At the time when she was a puppy, it felt like Tina would live forever. Now it's so hard to accept the fact that she's not here with us anymore. There is only a void now where Tina used to be.
I will never forget my "Nee-Nee." I feel so bad that we had to have her put to sleep. I can only wait until one day when I will meet her again on the other side. Until then, I must say goodbye.

I would like to send a special thank you to mydarncat for sponsoring Tina's memorial! It means a lot to me! Thank you!!
