Snoopy (a cute little apricot and white hamster) arrived at our doorstep somewhere around 1980.
My niece had got the little guy in Ohio and was taking him with her to live with her dad (my brother) in Pennsylvania. She had him in a glass fish tank and over the top was a shelf out of a refrigerator to keep him inside. As they were spending the night, Snoopy was placed on a desk in our family room for the evening. -- The next morning as they were getting ready to leave, it was discovered that Snoopy had push back the shelf and gotten out and was no where to be found. -- They left leaving Snoopy to roam somewhere in our house. It took us 3 days to locate and catch him.
Since he was now a part of our family, we had to make him comfortable. We bought a hampster cage that was the size of the fish tank and turned it upside down and made him a two story house. Through the little hole openings we put 2 ladders for him to go up and down. We got him a little wire wheel for exercise.
One day we got him a clear white ball that you could put him in and he could run all over the floors. At the time we had a little terrier (Duke)and he immediately thought Snoopy was his and the best thing going. In the evening Duke would go to the fish tank and look inside for Snoopy and he would stare back at Duke. That meant it was play time. Snoopy would get into his ball and the two of them would romp around the floor and they both loved it. This would go on every evening till they got tired and would just sit beside each other in contentment.
We had little Snoopy for 3 years and he traveled everywhere with us. We even took Duke and Snoopy to Disneyworld. When Snoopy died little Duke's heart was broke, he missed his buddy.
We have fond memories of the two of them playing and giving us much joy. They are both loved and missed. We buried Snoopy in our back yard in a beautiful little box.
A special thank you to Judy & Becky for sponsoring Snoopy's memorial page. Your kindness is appreciated.
