BRAUN, SOPHIA AND FRANZ FAMILY

Franz A. Braun was born in Bobingen, Rhineland Pfalz, Germany on December 2, 1813 to Casper and Maria Eva Hauser Braun.

On January 20, 1839, Franz married Sophia Weis in the parish of Geinsheim, Bobingen, Germany. Sophia was born on May 13, 1821 to Johannis and Katherine Schmit Weis in Altdorf, Rhineland Pfalz, Germany.

Sophia and Franz were the parents of eleven children. The first two, Maria Anna (July 7, 1839) and Barbara (March 21, 1841) died as infants and are buried in Bobingen, Germany.

Johannes (John) H. was born on July 15, 1843 in Boblingen, Germany. He married Barbara Brown on January 21, 1869 in Concord, Jefferson County, Wisconsin. John passed away on July 28, 1925 in Adams, Mower County , Minnesota and is buried at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Adams.

Phillip was born on October 16, 1844 in Bobingen, Germany. As a young man, he left Mitchell County to "go west". He was a retired teamster and passed away on February 15, 1920 in Reno, Nevada. Phillip is buried at St. Thomas Cemetery in Reno, Nevada.

Joseph was born in 1848 in Bobingen, Germany. Joseph also "went west" and lost contact with the family in Mitchell County. He died before 1920 and is said to be buried in Reno, Nevada.

Jacob was born on March 2, 1850 in Bobingen, Germany. He married Frances Scherer on July 18, 1872 in Stacyville, Mitchell County, Iowa. They farmed on Section 16 in Stacyville Township. Jacob passed away on April 10, 1929 in Stacyville and is buried at the Visitation Cemetery in Stacyville.

William was born in 1853 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a young man, he "went west". William was a miner and was said to have owned a silver mine at Pioche, Lincoln County, Nevada. Pioche is now a ghost town of the old west. "Wild Bill" passed away in 1939 at Pioche and was buried at Caliente, Nevada.

Heinrich (Henry) was born on December 26, 1855 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He married Christina Schillinger at Stacyville. After her death, Henry married Terressa Hutter of Delano, Minnesota. Henry passed away on August 11, 1907 at Minneapolis, Minnesota and is buried at the Visitation Cemetery in Stacyville, Iowa.

Boniface was born on May 29, 1857 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He married Ann Deilt in Wisconsin. Boniface passed away on May 7, 1939 in Wisconsin.

Catherine was born in 1966 near Concord, Jefferson County, Wisconsin.

Maria P. was born in 1867-68 near Concord, Jefferson County, Wisconsin.

Sophia and Franz came to the United States with their four children in 1851. From the Port of New York, they went directly to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for eight years, then to settle near Concord, Jefferson County, Wisconsin where they farmed. They moved to Mitchell County, Iowa in 1876 and settled on a farm in Section 21, Stacyville Township. Franz also worked as a painter.

Sophia passed away on June 4, 1888 in Stacyville Township and Franz passed away on April 27, 1897 in Stacyville Township. Both are buried at the Visitation Cemetery in Stacyville, Iowa.
