James Everett Dalton

Birth: May 12, 1914
Death: Jul. 21, 1988

James was a retired Carpenter with Carpenters Local Union 345, A deacon and member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church in Memphis, Tn, He served on the US Navy Ship "Proteus" in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked on the ship as an Officer's Chef and he was in fact a very good cook. He made the best homemade strawberry ice cream. He was present on board the ship at the signing of the peace treaty with Japan. James married Grace Donaldson Dalton whom he met in high school in Lafayette County Ms.

He passed away at St Francis Hospital in Memphis Tn. at the age of 74 from a pulmonary embolism after complications from routine knee surgery. He loved to fish and garden and everyone new him as Mr Jim and it was common for people from the community to buy turnip greens and corn, tomatoes and other vegetables from his garden.

He leaves 5 children, 11 grandchildren, 27 grt grandchildren and 2 grt grt grandchilden.
