A graveside memorial service for Sam W. Dougan, 83, Leavenworth, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion will conduct military honors.

Mr. Dougan died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at his home.

He was born May 28, 1919, in Alma, Ark., the son of Thomas Welch and Birtheny Elizabeth (Wilson) Dougan. He moved from Arkansas to Kansas in 1959 and then moved to Leavenworth in 1997.

Mr. Dougan served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, earning a Purple Heart and attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He was a farmer and worked at National Alfalfa.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials to American Heart Assn., sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
