The link below contains a scanned article on my Great Grandfather Montgomery that I copied in the Corinth, MS public library from the reserve section. It relates some of his Civil War experience as a Confederate surgeon and a bit of life after as well. I believe you'll find some Greers in that same cemetery who were very close with my GG. They named one of them Montgomery Greer.
Also below is the full text on the 3 sides of his grave obelisk.
FRONT: Confederate flag and a Mason symbol are prominently marked. The obelisk monutment was a gift to honor him from his many friends. W.R. Montgomery Born in Tenn April 10, 1832 Died at Cornersville, Miss. Feb 20, 1914 He joined the Methodist Church in early life and served as a steward for Fifty years. Practioner of Medicine at Cornersville for more than Fifty years. Four years service devoted to the cause of the Confederacy as Surgeon.
LEFT side: He was faithful to every trust with a heart full of love and sympathy to the poor and unfortunate of earth. He has fought a good fight He has finished his course He has kept the faith Henceforth there is laid up for him a crown of righteousness.
RIGHT side: Worshipful Master of Cornersville Lodge for thirty-four years. He possessed the courteous and gracious manners of a true gentleman, a warm heart and open hand, and he cheerfully gave the best that he had not only to the Order he loved so well, but to every man, woman, and child who needed him. Farewell dear friend.
