EDGAR STRAIN DIES MONDAY OF LAST WEEK
Services for Edgar Strain, who died early Monday morning of last week at the Mary Sherman Hospital in Sullivan, were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon of last week at the DeBaun Funeral Home in Prairie Creek. Rev. Gene Personnett officiated and favorite hymns were rendered by Mrs. Jeanette Wernz at the piano. Burial was at the Pogue Cemetery.
Benjamin Edgar, son of Levi and Sarah (Harrison) Strain, was born on the Strain Homestead in Fairbanks township, Nov. 7, 1884.
He was the elder of two children; the other a daughter Tamar, is now Mrs. R. G. DeHart.
Edgar's birthplace was, in earlier years, the home of his grandparents and was also the birthplace of his father - "Uncle Levi" as he was familiarly known, who spent his entire life on this farm.
In 1904, Edgar was united in marriage to Miss Mae McKinney and to them four children were born: Laurens, Maxine, (now Mrs. Elmer Riggs), Lucille (now Mrs. Garland Carrithers) and Theodore.
Edgar and Mae started house keeping on the part of the Strain farm where Laurens now lives and lived in this home until the death of Edgar's father, when they moved to the present farm. Thus his entire life was spent on the Strain homestead.
He was, for a number of years, an official of the Fairbanks bank; he also served as trustee of Fairbanks Township for eight years, and in each capacity was an efficient and trustworthy official.
He was a member of Kingsley Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge of Fairbanks for 50 years, Fairbanks Order of the Eastern Star and was a citizen loved and respected by all who knew him.
