Kandu 5 was captured off the coast of Iceland in late 1977. After her capture Kandu was sent to Dolphinarium Harderwijk in the Netherlands. After a few years there Kandu was sent to Sea World California. There she became pregnant with Orky II child. She gave birth on September 23, 1988 to a girl who was named Orkid (after her father, it means Orky's kid). On August 8, 1989 Kandu was involved in an infraction with another orca. Kandu was a very agressive orca and in this incident Kandu rammed the other orca. When Kandu rammed the other orca it fractured her jaw and a major artery. This resulted in massive blood loss. Within 45 mins. Kandu was dead. She was agressive but very sweet when she wanted to be. Kandu lives on today through Orkid, who looks almost exactly like her mother.
