Kamika Shoriette Nichelson was born in Jackson, Tennessee on December 24, 1975 (Christmas Eve) to the late Rosie Marie Nichelson (March 25, 1955-May 22, 2000) and Lawrence Tyus. She was the first one born to both parents.
Kamika moved to Missouri permanently when she was about 2 years old. She grew up and started school in the Webster Groves area. After moving to the south St. Louis area, still at a young age, she was enrolled into Hodgen Elementary School. Kamika was real smart and received many awards in achievement. She attended Pruitt Military Academy. She played the clarinet in the band and was a member of the choir. In 1994, Kamika graduated from Webster Groves High School.
Kamika confessed a belief in Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Holy Spirit at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Arthur Lee Jones. She loved going to church. She was a faithful member of the usher board and has sung in the choir. Just recently, she united with Mount Herald Missionary Baptist Church where Rev. Gary Tyler currently serves as pastor.
Kamika had a "big" heart and always had a beautiful smile. She had a smile that would instantly light up a room. She loved helping people of all ages and backgrounds. In fact, she saved a baby who fell from a second floor balcony. Kamika was truly an angel and she became his Godmother that very same day. She worked as a CNA for many years. She was employed at Riverview, a nursing home, and would help out in a friend's daycare where the children grew very fond of her.
Kamika was called home to be with our Heavenly Father and her mother on the morning of November 7, 2008. Let us pause for a moment as they are reunited. She was 32 years old and would have turned 33 on Christmas Eve.
