Thomas and Catherine were married in West Derby, Liverpool, Lancashire, England in 1872. They had 6 children, of which only 3 survived. Thomas according to family story studied at college to mine. He immigrated to the US and to PA to mine and then in abt 1889 emigrated to Franklin, King County, Washington where the Oregon Improvement Company owned a mine. It was here while working for this company that 3 of their children died; one son, Joseph, died on 24 Aug 1894 in a mining accident while trying to save others that were trapped after having gotten out alive. Two other children, William and Mary, died as toddlers. Grief striken after the mining accident, the family (his wife, Catherine, and 3 daughters, Katherine, Eleanor and Gertrude) moved to Seattle and he never mined again; where he lived until he deceased in 1911.
