AUTUMN

I want to come to Autumn with the silver in my hair,
And maybe have the children stop to look at me and stare;
I'd like to reach October free from blemish or from taint,
As splendid as a maple tree which artists love to paint.

I'd like to come to autumn, with my life work fully done
And look a little like a tree that's gleaming in the sun;
I'd like to think that I at last could come through
care and tears
And be as fair to look upon as every elm appears.

But when I reach October, full contented I shall be
If those with whom I've walked through life shall
still have faith in me;
Nor shall I dread the winter's frost, when brain
and body tire,
If I have made my life a thing which others can admire.
(by Edgar Guest)

Gary Dane Michael Carrier (born Gary Dane Michael and adopted by his paternal aunt and uncle after he was orphaned at age 2) was a much loved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved working in his garden, fishing on his boat and playing the keyboard for friends and family. He was also a very good cook and made all of the family holiday meals. His obituary was contributed to USGENWEB, Pennsylvania, under Mercer and Jefferson Counties.

Hey, Dad. How's it hangin' in the afterlife these days? Every time, like the other day, when leaving a hotel room, I hear you in my head reminding me to jiggle the door to make sure it latched. I think of you every day. You truly are still with me.

I hope to get back to Brookville this summer to visit your grave, Dad, even though I know you're not there. I hope that you'll know somehow anyway. I remember feeling sorry for you because you had the weight of the world on your shoulders. Now, I feel lik...(Read more)

You still have a lot of nerve being dead and leaving me with Mom and Dennis. It's amazing how often I hear your voice even though you aren;t here. I know what you would say. I had a dream and in it, I was able to hug you and it was so real. I could feel ...(Read more)
