Ivory (Ivy) William Carter, 81, born in Greenwich, N.J. passed away at the Millville Center, October 5, 2003 after a brief stay.

He was the oldest son of the late Ivory (Ivy) and Beatrice (Winchester) Carter.

He married the late Sarah Ridgeway Carter before serving in the US Navy as a Seaman 1st Class during WW II.

He worked as a truck driver for Ruben Rosen before entering the service and later became a butcher for Fishman's Meat Market and then Springer and Thomas where he served 38 years before retiring.

He was a former member of the MIW Prince Hall of Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of N.J. Ionic 40 and the former member of the United Supreme Council 33rd degree De-Hugo Consistory #2 of the Valley of Camden, N.J. He also was a member of the John Wesley United Methodist Church.

He is survived by a son Anthony Price of Clayton, N.J. and a daughter Ida Ridgeway of Lansing, Mi., three grandchildren, 5 sisters Gertrude Smith of Vineland, N.J., Frances Gross of Cape May, N.J., Evelyn Strand of Accomac, Virginia, Mary Lewis and Hazel Carter both of Florida. Three brothers Arthur and Robert Carter both of Cape May, N.J. and Sharpless Carter of Port Norris, N.J. One daughter-in-law Doreen Price, four sisters-in-law Velma, Doreen and Arlene Carter and Christine Ridgeway. Several nieces, nephews, family and friends including his Michigan friends. He was predeceased by one sister and two brothers.

Services will be held Sat. Oct. 11, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, Vine St. Bridgeton where friends may call 1 hour prior to services. There will be a Fri. night viewing at EDWARDS & SON FUNERAL HOMES, INC. from 6-8 p.m. 208 E. Commerce St., Bridgeton. Interment will be held at Cedar Hill Mem. Park, Hopewell Twp., N.J. immediately following services.
