A funeral mass was celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Clutier, at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, for Katherine Dostal Freeman, 27, who died Friday morning, Sept. 28, at St. Mary's Hospital in Reno, Nev. Father Joseph Syrovy, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiated.
She had been a hospital patient for two days. Mrs. Freeman had been in failing health the past two years with cancer.
The rosary was recited Monday evening at 8 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Clutier, led by Charles Svoboda. Mason-Hand Funeral Home of Tama was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Born Dec. 17, 1951, at Marshalltown, Iowa, she was the daughter of Arthur and Elaine Otto Dostal. She received her education in the Dysart-Geneseo school system and graduated from high school with the class of 1970. She attended Iowa State University in Ames for two years.
On Oct. 21, 1972, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clutier she was united in marriage with Steven Freeman of Bishop, CA. formerly of Sumner, IA. The couple resided at Bishop, Calif., for two years and then moved to Reno, Nev., where Mrs. Freeman was employed by the Boomtown Casino.
She was a member of the immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Clutier.
Survivors include her husband, Steven Freeman; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Dostal of rural Elberon; three brothers, Merle L. and Jeffrey D., both of Clutier, and Chris A. of rural Elberon; her grandmothers, Mrs. Lewis (Mary) Dostal of Tama and Mrs. Godfried (Lillian) Otto of Gladbrook; and two nieces.
Preceding her in death were a brother, Captain Edward A Dostal, on March 2, 1977, in Korea, and two grandfathers.
