JOHN L MCLAUGHLIN
John L McLaughlin, who hs been making his home with his son, Cash, died Monday morning Dec. 16, 1907 after an illness of only a few days duration. He was born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, in 1817. His father and mother were of Irish decent. His mother was a niece of Gen. Potter of Revolutionary fame. In 1844 he was married to Miss Martha Angelo, who died Oct 3, 1887 aged 65 years. To this union were born six children: James H. who died in infancy, Mrs. Sarah Bridger, Cassius C and Wm J. who reside here, Mrs. Mary Haney of Springfield,Mo., and Mrs. Josephine Haney of Milton, Iowa. He leaves thirteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
In 1856 he emigrated to Illinois driving the long distance with his family, in wagons.
Mr McLaughlin was brought up in a christian home. [Here a reference to his membershipin the Brethren congregation at Suez]
He was an honorable upright man in all his dealings and very highly esteemed by all who knew him.
Truly has the scripture been fulfilled in his life. "With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."
The pallbearers were five of his grandsons viz. Fred McLaughlin, John Mc Laughlin, Bert McLaughlin, Harvey McLaughlin, and Wm. Bridger, and one nephew, Bert McLaughlin.
The honorary pallbearers were E. Chilson, John Gilbert, Joe Boyer, John McKinnon, J. McGinnis and Fred Lewis.
Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church Wednesday at 11:00 a.m., conducted by Rev. T.J.T. Killip. Intermend[sic] in the Bridger Cemetery at Suez.
