Winston "Wink" Boggs,
80, of Corbin, Ky. Formerly of Cumberland, Ky. Died Sunday, May 8, at St. Joseph Hospital. A native of Harlan County, he was born May 13, 1930, to the late Willie G. And Matilda Hampton Boggs. He was a descendant of James L. Boggs and Elizabeth Clements. His ancestors were original pioneer settlers who settled in the Appalachian region in the mid 1700's and were contributors to the Revolutionary War. Wink was a US Navy veteran,Serving on the U.S.S. Erben DD 631 Destroyer in the pacific during the Korean war. Former President of Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Cumberland and after moving to Corbin he became Commander of VFW Post 1410 and served as an Honor Guard. He was a retired salesman for Orgill Brothers and called on many places throughout Kentucky. His passion was woodworking making many beautiful pieces of furniture, watching the various birds and other animals that ventured through his yard, and fishing at Lake Cumberland. He and his wife attended the Central Baptist Church in Corbin. Survivors include his devoted wife of 57 Years Billie Jean Mann Boggs, a son and wife Winston and Pam Boggs, Lexington, grandchildren Courtney Boggs, Nicholasville and Adam Rains, Louisville, 3 great grandchildren Darrian, Nevaeh, and Anthony, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a Daughter,Deborah J. Boggs, one sister, Nettie Williams, and 8 brothers Ernest, Oscar, Essie, Darrell, Bill, Burr, Riley. And Earl Boggs. Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held 1:30 PM Thursday , May 12, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. Donations may be made in his memory to the VFW POST 1410, 206 South Kentucky Street, Corbin, Ky. 40701.
