Alford William Lagman passed away peacefully after a long struggle with the effects of Parkinson's disease on January 7, 2013. He was born March 13, 1925 to Edgar Leornce and Christina Louise Pradat Lagman in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of Kenner and Slidell, LA. until his home was destroyed during Katrina. Al enlisted in the Navy in 1941 and served on board many vessels as a diver. He learned his lifelong profession of welding in the Navy. After discharge he settled in Newport, RI where he married, started his family and lived there until 1960 when he moved his family to New Orleans to start his long time business, Kenner Welding on Airline Highway. He later moved to Slidell and started AB Welding. A lot of his decorative welding can still be seen in the French Quarters where he made and repaired many of the balconies which still stand. While living in Kenner he also served on the Kenner Police Dept. While living in Rhode Island Al was an avid baseball player in the evenings which probably contributed to his love of watching sports on TV. It was a favorite pastime for him. He also would never pass up an opportunity for a good game of cards. He was a Saints and Zephyrs fan and enjoyed going to the games. He also loved traveling in his motor homes and was a past member of the Cruisin Cajuns. He always had a joke to tell and loved to tease every one of his grand daughters and nieces by telling them they were his favorite. He could talk, laugh and tell jokes and stories for hours on end always making you laugh with his one liners.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary DeCosta whom he married in Newport, Rhode Island. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Connie Lagman Howie in 2005 shortly after Katrina and his oldest son William Francis in 1998 and by his sisters Thelma Bohach-Zager, Lorina Cleary, Evelyn Mizell and Callie Mae Dufrene, brothers John Klopp, Edgar, Henry and Charles Lagman. He is survived by his sons, Robert and his wife Tammy, Hollywood, FL, Edward and his wife Rachelle, Kenner, LA , along with his second wife Blanche Fausterman , 2 step-children, Bonnie Moate of Dallas, TX and Terry Buchanan of Covington, LA, and his brother, Louis Lagman of Slidell. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In following with his wishes he will be cremated and his remains will be buried in Rhode Island along with his first wife Mary at a later date.
