IS SERIOUSLY SHOT IN FIGHT ARISING OVER INITIATION
Columbus, Ga., December 17, - (Special) - Norwood Bickerstaff, a young man of Hatchechubbee, Ala., is in the Columbus hospital tonight seriously wounded and perhaps in a dying condition, and J. Dyke Delacey of the same town, is under arrest at Seale, Ala., the Russell county seat, as a result of a difficulty at at Hatchechubbee last night.
Reports state that a fraternal order was conducting an initiation ia a building owned by the Delucey family, and Dyke Delacey, who objected to the use of fireworks about the building by the order, became angered when a cannon cracker exploded and while standing in front of the building expressed himself in vigorous language. Norwood Bickerstaff resented his remarks and a quarrel ensued. Delacey is said to have declared that if anybody touched him he would shoot him. Bickerstaff reached out and touched him and delacey instantly shot him in the side. He also fired at Frank Bickerstaff, the other's brother, and two of the bullets ent through his clothing but did not touch him. Frank Bickerstaff opened fire upon Delacey, wounding him in the arm and leg, but not seriously.
Norwood Bickerstaff was brought to Columbus on a special train today for surgical attention. Delacey has a wife and family.
It is reported that Delacey had applied for membership in the order that met at his building, and that his application was refused.
