Irene Elizabeth Bindel began her eternal life on June 30, 2014. With angels by her side, she was welcomed home joyously and triumphantly only as God would have it for a child of His. Irene's life was more of love than it was anything about living. She gave her love as God loved her, with tenderness and compassion.
Irene was born on October 30, 1923 in Electra, Texas, to the late John and Frances (Reis) Mengwasser. In 1943, she married John A. Bindel. He preceded her in death in 1994. Irene was a longtime parishioner at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, as well as Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters and the Altar Society. Irene's ministry to people was making Jesus Pillows, having sewn over 3,000 pillows for individuals all over the world. She was ‘walking and talking and praising the Lord' with every step she took.
Irene was also preceded in death by her two daughters, Carolyn Robinson, and Elizabeth Bindel; and a son, John A. "Tony" Bindel, Jr.; her brothers, Englebert Mengwasser and Robert Mengwasser; and her sister, Lucy Davidson.
She is survived by her children, Joe Bindel and wife, Nancy, of Denison, Patty Dudley and husband Tom of Austin, Jim Bindel and wife, Sue, of Wichita Falls, Mary Boone and husband, Dave, of Omaha, Nebraska, David Bindel and wife, Linda, of Wichita Falls, Michael Bindel and wife, Cyndi of Rhome, Theresa Mere and husband, Ted, of Abilene, and Margaret Smith and husband, Bobby, of Wichita Falls; two sisters, Mildred Prentiss of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Juanita Cummins of Odessa; daughter-in-law, Mary K. Bindel, of Wichita Falls; thirty-three grandchildren; fifty-eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral liturgy will be con-celebrated at 2:00 p.m on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. Sojan George and Fr. Jack McKone, celebrants. Rite of Committal will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 2, 2014.
For those desiring, memorials may be made to Family Life Center Building Fund at Our Lady Queen of Peace or the Sacred Heart Building Fund.
