Darcile Cothern Altman, 64, of Waycross, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009 morning at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
A native of Pierce County, she had lived all of her life in Pierce and Brantley Counties. She was a homemaker, and worked many years as a waitress at Graham's in Blackshear and other various restaurants. She was a member of University Boulevard Church of God in Waycross where she was a children's Sunday school teacher. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, mother-in-law, and friend.
She was a daughter of the late Johnny Green and Sallie Mae Whitley Cothern, and was also preceded in death by a step daughter, Rhonda Altman.
Survivors include her husband, Gilbert Lee Altman, Waycross; a daughter, Cathy Martin Cade (husband Stanley), Blackshear; a son, Apostle Eddie Sharpe Jr. (wife Shelly), Waycross; two step sons, Donald Altman (wife Shirley) of Summerville, FL, and Ronald Altman, Waycross; three sisters, Ruth Corbitt, Patterson, Velma Durrance, Jesup, Willie Mae Cothern, Waycross; three brothers, Elbert Lee "Buddy" Cothern, Blackshear, Johnny Terrell Cothern (wife Betty), Baxley, Raymond Green "Ray" Cothern, Patterson; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives.
Visitation will take place from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at the University Boulevard Church of God in Waycross.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 24, from the University Boulevard Church of God.
Interment will follow in the High Bluff Cemetery in Brantley County.
