L. Murray Ray, 81, 601 East Lincolnway, died at 12:10 p.m. Sunday after an extended illness. He was born July 15, 1874, in Welland, Ontario, the son of William Pelham Ray and Marie Theresa Martin.
He came to Valparaiso as a child. He married Mary Estella Lewis in Valparaiso June 24, 1903. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Ray moved to Canada, where he managed a shoe store. They returned to Valparaiso to reside in 1937.
Surviving are his widow and two sons, Lewis of Mountain Lakes, N.J.: Donald E. of Covina, Cal., and two sisters, Miss Mable F Ray of Evanston and Mrs. Niles L. Briggs of Greensboro, N.C., besides six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother, E. Clarence Ray, and a sister, Mrs. R.R. Shedd.
A member of the First Presbyterian church of Valparaiso, Ray served as elder and assistant treasurer. He was also a member of the Porter lodge 137, F & AM.
Funeral services will be held at the Bartholomew Funeral home with the Rev. Oliver C. Starn officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood cemetery.
