Mrs. JoAnn M. Gordon, age 87, of Comstock Park, went home to be with her Lord and Savior whom she faithfully served on Thursday, January 19, 2012. She grew up in the center of Coopersville across from the Reformed Church where she attended Sunday school. Her parents would drive in their Model A to Calvary Church in Grand Rapids to hear the teachings of Dr. DeHaan in the evenings. At the age of seven she accepted Christ as her personal savior. JoAnn's father owned Van's Bakery and was known by everyone as the hometown baker. In 1942 she graduated from Coopersville High School. After marrying Pastor Richard Gordon, JoAnn became a homemaker and a very supportive pastor's wife, and mother. She was very involved with the church and behind him in whatever was needed. Together they worked as a team. JoAnn helped him at Maranatha Bible Church, Ainger Bible Church, and Ottawa Center Chapel. Her home was graciously opened to others. She taught her children the love of Jesus Christ and was so very proud that her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were serving the Lord. JoAnn felt that her greatest achievement in life was to have her Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and to be a godly wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pastor Richard Gordon on January 1, 2010, brother and sisters, Col. Nick VanWingerden, Sally VanDam, and Cora Mills. JoAnn is survived by her children, Michael and Terri Gordon, Debbe and Mike Swinger, Laura and Chuck Smith, Richard P. and Tammi Gordon, and Bill Pahl; 14 grandchildren, Amie (James) Moran, Jason (Casey) Gordon, Nathan Gordon, Heather (Andy) Platt, Michael (Sarah) Swinger, Grant (Melissa) Swinger, Drew (Christy) Swinger, Erin Swinger, Travis Smith, Brad (Annie) Smith, Kelsey (Andrew) Burk, Jessica (Sos) Rowland, Hillary (Bill) Pirkola, Lantson Gordon; 9 great-grandchildren, Ashley May Gordon, Brayden Knapp, Micah Swinger, Ashlee Lynn Moran, Paige Moran, Josiah Swinger, Jadelyn Burk, Carter Burk, and Adele Swinger; brothers and sisters, John (Jan) VanWingerden, Arie (Etta) VanWingerden, Ruth (Don) Botts, Peggy Carlson; and nieces and nephews.
