Russell E. Gordon, 58, of Clay City, died of a heart attack at Clay City Hospital, Flora, at 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28.

Services will be at the Clay City Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Allen presiding. Burial will follow in the Clay City Cemetery with full military rites. Visitation will be in the Hosselton-Bookhout-Engelmeier Funeral Home, Clay City.

He was born May 15, 1927, in Shelby County to Fred and Ruth (Denier) Gordon, Sr. He married Dixie Hunley, who survives, Nov. 11, 1947, in Clay City.

He was the owner and operator of Gordon's Lucky Dollar Food Store in Clay City.

Mr. Gordon was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Clay City Baptist Church, the Clay City American Legion, Clay City Odd Fellows, and was president of the Clay City Lions Club. He was a former mayor of Clay City.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie, Clay City; his father, Fred Gordon, Sr., Clay City; two sons, Richard and Randy, both of Clay City; three daughters, Mrs. Trudy Harris, Mt. Olive; Mrs. Connie Dust, Shumway; Mrs. Sondra Geiger, Olney; four brothers, Bob, Orlando, Fla.; John, Clay City; Jack, Decatur; Wayne, Mahomet; five sisters, Mrs. Jenny Newsome, Decatur; Mrs. June Shomaker, Decatur; Mrs. Doris Greene, Decatur; Mrs. Virginia Jennings, Flora; Mrs.
Marilyn Bissey, Clay City; and six grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his mother and a brother.

Memorials may be made to the Clay City Lions Club or to the church of one's choice.

HE ENLISTED ON MARCH 17, 1945 AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS AN APPRENTICE SEAMAN ON MAY 7, 1945 AT THE NAVY RECRUITING STATION, SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS. HE COMPLETED BOOT CAMP AT NAVAL TRAINING CENTER, GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS, WITH FURTHER TRAINING AT NAVAL AIR TECHNICAL TRAINING CENTER, CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED ABOARD THE ESCORT CARRIER USS BARRON CVE-115.

HE WAS HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A SEAMAN FIRST CLASS ON AUGUST 9, 1946 AT NAVAL PERSONNEL SEPARATION CENTER, UNIT #4, GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS.

HE EARNED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
