Funeral services for Mrs. Ingvald Melby, 84. Who died at the Canby Hospital on February 4, were held at 2:p.m. Wednesday, February 7, at the Gary United Methodist Church. Pastor Richard Salmonson officiated. Janis Hanson was organist. Soloist was Robert Hanson.
Pallbearers were Earl Thorson, LeRoy Bailey, Lyndon Hanson, David Taylor, Lester Melby and Donald Nemitz. Interment was in Grandview Cemetery, Gary, SD.
Alice M. Melby ws born December 4, 1894 in Manfred Township to Mr. and Mrs. John H. Taylor. She ws raised in Manfred Township and graduated from Canby High School and Canby Normal School. On May 7, 1921 she was married to Ingvald Melby at the First English Lutheran Church. She taught rural school for three years before and two years after her marriage. She lived all her live in Manfred Township, was a member of the Gary United Methodist Church and served for several years as clerk of School District 46.
She is survived by her husband, one son Morris, Gary, SD; and one daughter, Mrs. Pierre (Arlene) LaPlant, San Diego, CA.; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren; one sister, Agnes Taylor, Minneapolis; three brothers, Raymond, Gary, SD.; Harold, Portland, OR and Robert, Bellingham. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
