Taylor was the son of Peter Putman and Sarah Elizabeth Neiferd. He married Margaret Ellen Hines, and they divorced. Taylor and Margaret were the parents of Josa Jane Boyer, Andrew Howard Putman, Sadie Catherine Mottinger, Eleanor Fitzgibbons, Harrison LeRoy Putman, Cary Clayton Putman, Charles D. Putman, and Della Myers.

Taylor was a farmer and first resided in Dull, Ohio, then moved to Ohio City after he and Maggie divorced, and was found in Ft. Wayne, Indiana in 1924.

The funeral of Taylor Putman who died at the home of his daughter Mrs. John Mottinger, of Ohio City, will be held Thursday morning, at 10:00 at the Mt. Zion United Brethren Church, in Liberty Township. Interment will be in the church cemetery (Ridge-Slater). Among his direct survivors, other than those previously mentioned, are: three brothers, Scott, Newton, and Willis Putman of Ohio City, two sisters, Mrs. Frank King and Mrs. Charles Hartzog of Celina, 20 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Mr. Putman was a brother of the late Mrs. Marion F. Shaffer of E. Crawford St."
