Slain Georgetown Police officer shot in the line of duty. He was 29 years old and had been on the Georgetown police force for 1 year.
Prior to joining Georgetown, Spicer had work for the Laurel Police Department (June 17, 2008 - Aug. 24, 2008); Bridgeville Police Department (March 1, 2004 - June 15, 2008); and the Delaware Department of Corrections (2000 to 2004).
Spicer was a native of Georgetown having graduated from Sussex Central High School, and Delaware Technical and Community College in 1999.
Spicer was tragically killed in the line of duty on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009 during a traffic stop. Chad was an outstanding police officer and will be sorely missed by his family, friends and his fellow officers.
Spicer is survived by his parents Norman and Ruth Ann Spicer of Georgetown, and a 3-year-old daughter, Aubrey.
In lieu of flowers, a trust fund has been established for the benefit of Aubrey. Contributions can be sent to the Aubrey Spicer Trust, c/o Norman E. Spicer, Wilmington Trust Bank, 139 S. State St., Dover DE 19901, or any Wilmington Trust Bank.
Patrolman Spicer's funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Crossroads Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown. Burial will immediately follow at the Cokesbury Cemetery at Seashore Highway and Cokesbury Road.
