Mrs. Lauder was recognized around the world for her skills as a corporate executive, serving as Senior Corporate V.P. of the Estée Lauder Companies [founded by her Mother-in-law Estée Lauder] & responsible for the development of innovative skin care, makeup & fragrance products, including the creation of such globally successful scents as Beautiful, Estée Lauder pleasures, Youth Dew & fragrances in other corporate brands. She had a major role in the success of this major corporation & Crain's New York included her in its list of top 100 businesswomen. Not content with this, however, she has also devoted her incredible energies to women's health & the fight against breast cancer & philanthropy. She had been credited as one of the creators & popularizers of the pink ribbon as a symbol for awareness of breast cancer & fund-raising to establish the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City which opened in 2009. She also authored a book of photography in addition to "In Great Taste: Fresh, Simple Recipes for Eating & Living Well"

Born Evelyn Hausner in 1936 in Vienna, Austria, she fled Nazi-occupied Europe with her parents to the United States. She attended public schools in New York City & Hunter College, part of the City University of New York.

As a college freshman, she met Leonard Lauder, the elder son of Estée Lauder; whose family owned what was then a small cosmetics company. They married in 1959. He serves as chairman emeritus of the company. Estée Lauder died in 2004 at 97.

Leonard & Evelyn Lauder's son William is executive chairman of Estée Lauder Cos. Another son, Gary, is managing director of Lauder Partners LLC, a technology investment firm.


Evelyn Lauder is also the creator of Clinique Cosmetics, which was founded in 1968 and sold under the Estée Lauder name.
