Born in Liberty, Missouri, she grew up in Missouri and Oregon and graduated from Simpson Bible Institute in Seattle in 1949. She attended nursing schools in Oregon and Kentucky, training in midwifery.
She joined the Mid-African Mission (now Baptist Mid-Missions)in 1950 and was assigned to Ubangi-Shari in 1952, where she developed a medical practice at the dispensary in Fort Sibut. She was active in women’s ministry, taught in the Sibut Bible School, and taught young Central Africans to play the accordion.
Her work included translations of music and materials into Sango. President Andre Kolingba traveled to Sibut to honor her for 30 years of service.
