Richard was the son of Richard Olmstead Sr and Francis Slany. He was brought to this country by his uncle James and he settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
He fought in the Pequet War in 1637 and became a Lieutenant. He fought as a Captain in King Philip's War in 1680.
He married Elizabeth Hawes and had at least one children, namely, John Olmstead
