GATES, DAVID M. Private. Co I 18th OH Inf. Enlisted 1 May 1861. Also served in Co. K 56 OH. 1890 Vet Schedule: Sligo, Clarion, PA.Kidney trouble. Discharged Mar 1866.

David M. Gates of Piney township died at his home at Madison Furnace at an early hour this (Monday) Morning. Mr. Gates was past 60 years of age. For some years he has been in poor health but has only been confined to his bed for the past five weeks with cancer of the stomach. He was a member of Capt. J.B. Loomis Post G.A.R. and a member in good standing of Clarion Lodge I.O.O.F. The funeral will occur at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Interment at Reidsburg. (Clarion Journal 11/6/1899)
