"LAD THROWN FROM WAGON AND KILLED ~ Harold Brooks Meets Almost Instant Death at His Home on Fourth North.
Harold, the 6-year-old son of John Brooks, a blacksmith, met a tragic death on Third North between Fifth and Sixth West streets, when he was jarred from a wagon and thrown to the street, receiving a fractured skull, which caused almost instant death.
The boy was riding at the side of his cousin, Henry Brooks, but the accident occurred so suddenly that the latter was powerless to take any means of avoiding it.
Henry Brooks was driving toward the shop with a load of sand. The boy sat on top. In turning the corner the wagon lurched suddenly and the violent jar accompanying it threw the boy completely off his seat. There was nothing for him to hold to and recover himself, and he was thrown headlong, striking the hard ground.
Henry Brooks stopped the horses and jumped to the side of his stricken cousin. The lad was then unconscious. He was carried into the house and a physician called, but he failed to respond to treatment and death is believed to have been almost instantaneous."

"FALL FROM WAGON FATAL. Harold Brooks Killed When Jarred From His Seat. ~
Harold Brooks, the six-year-old son of John Brooks, a blacksmith residing in the rear of 643 west Third North street, met almost instant death Saturday evening by being jarred from a wagon loaded with sand.
The wagon was being driven by the little fellow's cousin, Henry Brooks, to the father's blacksmith shop, 137 north Second West street. While in Third North between Fifth and Sixth West streets, Harold was sitting on top of the load. The wheels, dropping into a depression, caused the wagon to lurch and the boy was thrown from his seat on the sand. Before the driver could clutch him, the lad had struck the street, head foremost. When picked up he was unconscious and died before he could be taken into a house and a doctor summoned."
