Glen Gladfelder, age 99, of Centerville, Iowa died Tuesday August 16, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
He was born on August 22, 1905, the son of Lenora(Zitella Hiatt) and Delbert Gladfelder in Walnut Townshop, Appanoose, Iowa. He married Vera May Stevens in Albia, Iowa. Glen was drafted into the army in March of 1942, and was discharged in September of 1945 after serving in New Guinea as a cook at an army hospital there.
Glen spent several years working as a farmhand for Sam Oakes in Zearing, Iowa. He became especially accomplished at working with Belgian horses. He also worked for Ed Phillips at the DX Station on the Levee in Centerville, and later worked for Pullman Motors Ford Garage located off of the northwest corner of the square in Centerville, Later for Parks and Brunt Ford then for Myron DeVore Motors. Glen retired from the ford garage at its new location in 1974. While working for the garages he milk cows and raised dogs. He was a member of the Drake Ave Christian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Cathie Knorr and her husband Steve of Centerville, Iowa; a sister, Mary Camkpoli of Rockford, Illinois; two grandsons, Evan and Joel of Centerville, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Glen was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Gladfelder; his parents; a daughter, Glenda Ann Gladfelder; a sister, Velma Bankson; and brothers, Verl, Claude, Audrey, and Russell.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Saturday morning, August 20, 2005 at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Carl Heien officiating. Friends may call all day Friday with the family present from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Dale Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the 18-80 Club and may be left at the funeral home.
