Nelda Ann, of Kountze, passed away Wednesday at her residence.
Born in Arkansas, to Sam and Juanita Owings, Nelda graduated from Kountze High School in 1963 and has been back in the Kountze area since 1988. She was a math teacher who retired after thirty two years of service to Channelview, Silsbee and Warren ISD. She was a volunteer Curator and former member of Kirby-Hill House Board of Directors, founder of the Old Hardin Wildflowers Association, former director of Holland Cemetery Association and the Southeast Texas Arts Council, Hardin County Representative to Jefferson County Regional Tourism Center. She was the Founder, former president, and general manager for the Hardin County Tourist Bureau, Inc., a member of the Ghost Road County Park Committee, First Mate to the Captain of Timber Ridge Tours, and also published weekly stories in the Hardin County News for five years.
She is survived by her longtime friend and husband, James "Bobo" Overstreet; daughters, Leanne Imer and husband Bradley, Amanda Overstreet; sisters, Nancy Gandy, Carol McDonald, and Terry McNeely; grandchildren, Michael, Anthony, Madison, Elsie Belle; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
