Services will be AT 2 p.m. Saturday for Sam W. Cox 82, of Big Spring at Nelly-Pickle Funeral Home Rosewood Chapel with burial at Garden City Cemetery in Garden City under the direction of Nelly-Pickle Funeral Home.
He died Thursday afternoon at a Big Spring hospital following an illness of several months.
Born Dec. 31, 1897, in Swisher County, he moved to Glasscock County in 1906 from the JA Ranch in Swisher County. A member of a pioneer family in Glasscock County, he marriedThelma Mattie Berry Oct. 24, 1920, in Garden City.
He later moved to Martin County and farmed and ranched in the county before moving to Big Spring in 1976. He was a Martin County commissioner for 14 years and earlier had been a member of the Glasscock County School Board. He was a deacon fo the Baptist Temple Church in Big Spring.
He is survived by his wife at home; two sons Gordon of Andrew and Bob of Stanton; two brothers, John of Rotan and C.J. of Garden City; three sisters, Essie Chaney and Eva Cunningham, both of Big Spring, and Jennie Teele of Garden City; five grandchildren , five great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
