Marvin Warren Davis, Jr., 93, of Amherst, died, Monday, July 11, 2011, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of 71 years to the late Eleanor Sale Davis. Born March 4, 1918, in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Marvin Warren Davis, Sr. and the late Mary Watts Davis.
Mr. Davis was a retired self-employed farmer and co-owner of Davis Grocery. He was also a member of Midway Baptist Church. Mr. Davis was also on the Amherst County Board of Supervisors from 1962-1980, and a long-time member of the Pedlar Ruritan Club.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Davis is preceded in death by one brother, James L. Davis and one half-brother, Lloyd A. Watts.
Mr. Davis is survived by one daughter, Joanne D. Adams Carden and her husband William "Joe" of Amherst; one brother, John Dudley Davis and his wife Sue of Richmond; two sisters, Emily McDaniel Morris of Lynchburg and Elizabeth D. Lane of Richmond; two grandsons, Christopher Rae Adams of Amherst and Michael Scott Adams and his wife Michelle, also of Amherst; three great-granddaughters, Payton Danielle Adams, Caleigh Grace Adams and Katlyn Elizabeth Adams and Carter and Mason Bowen; caregivers and friends, Geneva Watts, Joy Fulcher, Bettie Austin, Mary Cash, Connie Mawyer, Gayle Douglas, Jean Ware and Floyd Moore; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted, 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 14, 2011, at Midway Baptist Church with the Rev. Hugh Bumgarner officiating. Interment will follow at Allwood Community Cemetery.
The family will receive friends, 6-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence of his daughter, Joanne Adams Carden.
Memorial contributions may be made to Midway Baptist Church or to the Pedlar Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad.
